Stainless steel 316Ti forgings are a chromium-nickel steel. It contains molybdenum that offers chloride resistance, corrosion resistance and good strength. This grade of steel is good to be used in acidic environments due to excellent resistance against pitting and chloride. It is very effective against acetic, tartaric acids, formic acids, sulfuric acids, hydrochloric acids, alkaline chlorides, acid sulfates and more. It is not good for open die forgings but closed die forging process is good for this steel. It is treated at different heat temperature such as 1900-2100 degrees Fahrenheit for only an hour. It is then quenched rapidly to get the desired thickness.
The annealing temperature at which you will get great corrosion resistance is 1950 degree Fahrenheit. But it cannot be hardened by heat treating.
